Service Apprentice
Department: Service Centre
Reports to: Service Bay Coordinator, with guidance from a designated Technician Mentor

Purpose:

Learn and carry out automotive service tasks through practical, supervised training. This entry-level role is suited
to someone with an excellent attitude, a genuine interest in hands-on work and a strong willingness to learn.
Previous automotive work experience is not required.

Main responsibilities
 Participate actively in training, follow instructions, ask questions when unsure and apply feedback to
improve the quality of your work.
 Learn and assist with battery testing and installation, bulb and wiper blade replacement, and headlight
restoration.
 Learn and assist with tyre inspection, removal, fitting and repair, wheel balancing and related service tasks.
Progress to additional tasks, including wheel alignment, as training and competence develop.
 Follow work orders and record completed work and relevant vehicle information accurately, with guidance.
 Complete prescribed safety and quality checks with the supervising technician before vehicles are released
to customers.
 Keep service bays, tools and equipment clean, organised and properly stored; report defects, damage or
hazards promptly.
 Assist with receiving and putting away service supplies, tyres and wheels, and keeping consumables
replenished.
 Use required protective equipment and follow safe working procedures. Operate equipment and perform
service tasks only when trained and authorised, with the required supervision.
 Treat customers, colleagues and customers’ vehicles with care and respect; assist with other reasonable
duties related to the role.

 Basic reading, writing and numeracy skills to follow instructions and complete job records.
 An interest in automotive work and the ability to undertake practical service duties safely, using appropriate
equipment and assistance.
Training and development

The six-month apprenticeship provides practical training and mentoring, with progress reviews covering skills,
safety, attendance and work attitude. Successful completion leads to assessment for progression to Junior
Service Technician. Prior technical training or mechanical knowledge is welcome but is not essential.
